Homeowners are looking for a sense of nature as they work around their homes. With an eye on this trend, Krylon has selected Matte Coffee Bean, a rick, dark brown, as its 2026 Color of the Year.

“More and more, people are looking for spaces that create a feeling of wellness,” says Lisbeth Parada, color and design lead at Krylon. “Matte Coffee Bean, our color of the year, brings a sense of warmth.”

Parada observes that this year’s Color of the Year is all about grounding and versatility; Matte Coffee Bean is a highly sophisticated color that creates a sense of calm and nature, and pairs well with wood, stone and marble.

“Matte Coffee Bean is a rich, earthy brown that connects to nature,” Parada says. “It’s a color that you can count on to deliver timeless style.

“Matte Coffee Bean adds dimension with a natural, grounded allure, aligning with today’s increasing appeal of organic minimalism,” Parada continues. “Inspired by elements like clay, wood and stone, this hue is a timeless yet sophisticated choice that elevates everyday spaces and invites a sense of harmony and serenity into the home.

“It complements rather than dominates its surroundings, creating a sense of calm, serenity and contemplation,” adds Parada. “It can be used on metal, plastic, ceramic or other surfaces. It taps into our growing love of rich, deep neutrals. It is a warm neutral that DIYers can’t get enough of. It’s not just about aesthetics but speaks directly to restorative refuge.”

Restorative Refuge is one of the three driving trends that Parada and the Krylon color team have identified for 2026.

“People want spaces that feel like an escape, and their homes to be a true refuge,” Parada points out. “Consumers are looking for calm, natural colors.”

The second trend is Less is More. “There’s a growing ‘underconsumpton’ mindset, with homeowners restoring old furniture and décor items with rich, timeless finishes,” Parada says.

Grit and Grind is the third trend. “We notice that hard work and creating something with your own hands is coming back,” Parada observes.

Krylon has selected three colors for its complementary palette: Satin Khaki, Metallic Gold and Hammered Black. Interestingly, Hammered Black was Krylon’s 2025 Color of the Year. “The color shift is not a dramatic leap, but a natural evolution from Hammered Black. It works indoors or out,” says Parada.

As part of the Sherwin-Williams family, Krylon is well aware of its fellow brands’ color choices. Devon Sherepita, associate brand manager for Krylon, notes that Matte Coffee Bean works very well with Sherwin-Williams brands’ choices for this year’s colors of the year.

“We have emphasized these colors working together, such as Special Walnut from Minwax and Warm Eucalyptus from Valspar,” says Sherepita.

Krylon Fusion All-In-One paint is available at Lowe’s, Walmart and Hobby Lobby.
